Portrait of Memucan Hunt Howard
1876-1886
This is an oil portrait of Memucan Hunt Howard taken in the later stages of his life. Trees were noted to be the background of the portrait. He wears a full dark coat and a newspaper rests in his hands which shows that Howard was literate. He has a large beard which shows that Memucan Hunt was an older man, and the portrait could have been taken any time between 1877 and 1887.
This document was used in the biography to infer details about Howard’s prominence and wealth in society. Since only the wealthier members of society could afford to have their portraits painted we can reasonably assume that Howard was a wealthy man. This corroborates evidence that has been provided in other documents suggesting that Memucan Hunt Howard possessed a substantial amount of material wealth.
