Land Grant for land in Hardeman County to Howard from the State of Tennessee
August 14, 1824
This document is the second of four Hardeman County, Tennessee land grants, recorded on July 9th, 1825, warrant number 23889. The land itself was given to Howard on August 14th, 1824: twenty acres by surveying before November 21st, 1824 in addition to 250 acres in the name of a buyer, Gideon Pillow, and 183 aces in the name of Samuel H. Williams. In total, these 453 acres lie within a small southwestern boundary located in Hardeman County.
We used this in the biography when tracking the land grants given to Memucan Hunt Howard. This document particularly portrays that Howard gradually gained partial amounts from surveying land from the government by deadlines including November 21st, 1824. We can infer this is how Memucan Hunt Howard made the bulk of his wealth in his surveying business.
